Panic attacks can be difficult to describe. But if you ever get a feeling as if you can’t breathe, you are having to fight for oxygen and you heart is racing and you fear you might be having a heart attack, you might actually be experiencing a panic attack.

For most people a panic attack comes as a surprise. Sufferers report feeling that they feel as if there heart is going to explode for their chest, it is pounding so hard. They may feel a continuing escalation of a fearful feeling they can’t explain and they feel weak in the stomach. Some people feel pain shooting down their legs while others feel their fingers and toes going numb. Most of the people feel that they are going to have a heart attack and are going to die soon.

Now that you know what a panic attack feels like you can very well imagine that it is extremely awful, and emotionally weakening. Immediately after their first such attack people find themselves at a doctor’s chamber or even a hospitals emergency room, prepared to hear the worst possible news about their health.

The sad part is that often in these situations people are not happy to hear that they don’t have any life-threatening disease or condition like a heart attack. This is because the next question in their mind is that if they are really fine then what was the dreadful thing that they just experienced and is it now going to be a regular part of their life.

It is very difficult to exactly describe a panic attack as the symptoms, intensity and time duration of such attacks vary from person to person. They are on an emotional rolla coaster. People experiencing panic attacks sometimes feel as if they are in a cycle that they can’t break out of that will eventually end in some huge catastrophe.

Many people also feel that their heart is racing like a race horses and they are going to have a heart attack. Others believe that they are losing control over themselves and fear that they might do something embarrassing in front of others. They begin to gasp for air and feel as though they cannot breath effectively enough to get enough oxygen into their body.

The symptoms of a panic attack are quite pronounced and real, and so the experience can be quite traumatizing. One of the worst things for a suffer is that they are often left not knowing when the next attack might occur, so they are in a constant state of anticipation of it and high anxiety. Typically an attack will reach its peak of intensity relatively quickly. This is a difficult time when you are trying to find ways of coping with panic attacks.

The aftermath of a panic attack can be dreadful. Many People report feeling helpless, all alone and depressed. An unknown fear starts to haunt them as they don’t know when or where the next attack will be. That is when your family and friends and also your doctor can really help you to cope and search for light at the end of the tunnel.
